With a surge in immigration, Sweden has faced the challenge of providing shelter for thousands of refugees. High Chaparral stepped up to the plate when Emil Erlandsson, the park owner, decided to open its doors. “My grandfather, who built this park with the spirit of the American settlers in mind, would have done the same,” said Erlandsson.
Unlike the temporary tents and athletic stadiums used by many, this unique winter refuge offers a secure and welcoming environment for 500 individuals displaced from their homes. Set amidst the chilly Swedish wilderness, High Chaparral stands as one of the country’s better-equipped and most extraordinary refugee camps.
